Gaohu Strings

A gaohu is tuned G to D, so the inner string is the thick low one and the outer string is the thin high one; work out which of the two has gone before you order, because inner and outer are sold separately here and one broken string does not cost you a whole set. Chrome-wound strings wear harder and speak brighter, while the plain wound ones read rounder and take the bow more softly, and that is the real choice between sitting in an ensemble and playing on your own. Gaohu strings are not erhu strings: the speaking length and the tension are different, and an erhu string pressed into service will drag your intonation and change how the bow bites.
