Pipa

Description

The pipa is a traditional Chinese four-stringed plucked instrument with a long history and rich cultural significance. It plays an important role in both ancient and modern Chinese music and has also had a wide influence throughout East Asia.

Basic Structure:

Body: The main part of the pipa, usually a flat pear or egg shape, made of wood. The size and shape of the body affect the instrument's tone.
Neck: The part extending from the body. The neck bears frets for stopping the strings, and during performance different pitches are produced by stopping and plucking the strings.
Strings: The pipa usually has four strings, though some modern pipas may have five or more. The material and tension of the strings affect the tonal expression.
Head: The head is usually exquisitely decorated, and some adopt the traditional fish-head design, which not only has aesthetic value but also symbolizes good fortune.
