Renowned erhu performer and educator. Born in 1954 in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province.
Entered the Folk Music Department of the Central Conservatory of Music in 1977. In 1979 he won two first prizes in the conservatory's music competition and was selected to tour numerous countries abroad with the Central Conservatory of Music Folk Orchestra. He was subsequently invited many times to lecture and perform in Germany, France, Italy, Taiwan, Hong Kong and elsewhere. After graduating from the undergraduate program of the conservatory's Folk Music Department in 1982, he remained at the school to teach. He currently serves as professor in the Folk Music Department of the Central Conservatory of Music, master's degree supervisor, and member of the conservatory's academic committee; he is also a member of the China Musicians Association, a member of the artists' division of the China Talent Research Society, vice-president of the China Erhu Society, and a director of the China National Orchestral Music Society, among other positions.
